31 May 2008 - up Toowomba way

The planned ride this week is west to Toowoomba for brekkie at the usual spot in Margaret Street, CafĂ© Valetta. Start will be half an hour later this week 7.30am at the BP Goodna. Not sure of the route yet, either head along the highway or maybe take the back way through Ipswich, Laidley, Grantham and Flagstone. Much will depend on the weather and mood of the day. After breakfast we'll head to Esk via Hampton as usual where we’ll decide on the final leg home either over Mt Glorious or on Ipswich Road, again mood and weather dependant. Not too sure if I'll make the ride this week thanks to the flu brought back from the US by my darling son. Please ring me in the morning if it’s wet or there are any doubts - 0418xxxxx. Hope to see you at Goodna. RegardsKen
Ride Report: Bloody wet- no go

Two rides now and not a wimper about the cold mornings. Talk of a mid winter stay up at the Bunya's- over night and back. good idea.see ya Scribe.

080517 O Riellys

This week Kim is taking the ride to O'Reilly's Lookout via Mt Tamborine and Canungra weather permitting. Meeting place is 7.30am at the massive BP at Yatala. Note the later start because of the extra distance from the CBD. I'm away this week as is Lester and Neil. Have a great ride and I'll see everyone the following Saturday. Extremely good RegardsKen
Ride Report:The ride was superb. Early morning cloud hung low over the M1 as we went down but this lifted as we got further into the ride from Stapyleton BP to the high ridge of Tambourine. Lester had a rather rough time getting out of bed as the low cloud created a darkness that he felt looked like rain. I say” well done the missus”!! The road up allowed Kim to practice passing. The technique needs improving if the horns were any indication. The Goat track was a lovely ride down with lots of early morning dew and a truck that had poured water onto the corners- Nice! Kim’s conservatism left the boys munching for a thrash, so they left ahead for Canungra. Tim managed to bugger up the “Trumpy” so he met us on the new 400 at the Canungra exit to the “hill” that ends in O’Rielly’s. The road is quite good and seems to have quite a bit of recent work. It was smooth right up to about the last 4-5 Ks when it returned to its old bumpy self-OK if your on the tourer as the scenery is sensational. The day had cleared to perfect, and the Breakfast at the top was beginning to fill our thought. Ill bet the 20 odd cyclist were “tonguein’ for a cuppa” as well. Good climb for them. Connie was a cheery 20-something and she allowed the lads to sit out the back with the view. She charmed the cook as well. He wasn’t doing a poached egg for anyone! (Ken – runny or otherwise!) Connie-- sorry we forgot to tip! Next time. The ride back was through the Coast hinterland to Nerang – Lovely run – perfect weather.

10 May 2008- Kyogle

This week the plan is to head to Kyogle for brekkie at either the Lilian Rock Cafe (Danny's request) or the Box and Dice. From all accounts the Lions Road is usable and will be the route to Kyogle. After brekkie we will head home on the Murwillumbah road via Uki, turning off to Tyalgum, Chillingham, and the Numinbah Valley. Meet 7am at the Shell Servo at Calamvale and head out to Beaudesert, then Rathdowney and on to Kyogle. We should be home around 1pm.
