080823 Down South to get some cold

Craig has asked for this one and it's about time we did the run down to Kyogle anyway. Meet 7am at the Shell Servo at Calamvale and head out to Beaudesert, then Rathdowney and on to Kyogle via the Lions Road. After brekkie at the Box and Dice we will head home on the Murwillumbah road via Uki, turning off to Tyalgum, Chillingham, and the Numinbah Valley. We should be home around 1pm. If I get out on this one I will need to be home earlier so will head back from Kyogle on the Summerland Way with Lester. I trust one of the other regulars will guide the rest home via Numinbah. I tried getting the map for this but Google doesn't like the Lions Road for some reason. If anyone else wants to have a go please do and forward me the link.

080816 Clifton (or Freeze your n...s off!)

Clifton Ride Report

Definitely one of the best rides we do, even if it's a bit long is this Clifton run. Riders last weekend were Steve, Mike, Henry, Craig, Jim (new to the group), Kim, Andrew, Tim, Bernie & wife Helen, Ian, David and Ken. We were a little late getting away due to the accident with a car suffered by Bernie & Helen. Not too serious but enough to give both a shake up. From the Boonah BP we took the highway to the Wulkuraka connection road and then headed on the back roads to the Clifton turn just before Grantham. The ride from here to Clifton was a beauty. At Clifton there were plenty photosynthesising in the sun while brekkie was cooked. After nourishment we popped down the road to the Nobby Pub for a quick look and ale. The group then decided that next trip up this way should have the pub as the brekkie stop. The owners agreed to make special dispensation for us and cook brekkie if we phone ahead. We said our goodbyes to Bernie and Helen here and rode to Toowoomba where we refuelled.
In Toowoomba we took the route around the city centre and bade goodbye to Mike and Dave who headed home from there. After sticking to the speed limit all the way from Highfields to Hampton thanks to the flashing lights of on-coming traffic we cruised past the radar trap and headed down the hill to Esk. Another magnificent piece of road was enjoyed by all. Jim left us somewhere on this leg to visit his son.
At Esk we said farewell to Steve, Ian, Tim and Andrew who all needed to get home for one reason or another. A gentle ride up Mt G ensued with a wine or beer at the restaurant overlooking Moreton Bay was the penultimate pleasure to the ride home down the twisty hill. The atmosphere was so clear from the deck at the restaurant that the sand hills on Moreton Bay where quite noticeable the way they reflected the sun. ...........That ride still has me smiling.

080809 Boonah figure eight ride report

Well I don't mind saying it we got lost sort of and not just once. The planned ride was abridged several times before I ran out of time and had to head home. Several of the group tried to complete the ride over Mt G but I'm yet to hear how that went. I'm pleased to welcome Grant (Duc 800SS) and Stuart (Aprilia 250) as first timers to the group. I hope it's the first of many group rides with us, boys. Grant and I go back to first grade but haven't been in touch for about 30 years, so it's good to catch up especially with someone who appreciates the fine Italian two wheeled marque. We need more Ducati devotees to even up numbers with those german tractors.
All was great except for the icy conditions in the ride to Flavours Cafe. The food was again very good and the air conditioned rooms with fire were well received. After thawing out and eating brekkie we rode past Maroon Dam to Rathdowney and then onto the Lions Road before turning left to Innisplain. That's where I started to lose my bearings a little. We should have taken that side road to the right before the highway but instead we proceeded to the highway and took the turn to Christmas Creek at Tamrookum. This lead us to a ''T" junction where we should have gone right, but we went left instead and then joined the highway again at Laravale instead of riding through Christmas Creek and Kerry. This meant we made good time getting to Beaudesert where we refuelled. We lost some riders here before we took on the old favourite Boonah Beaudesert connection road. That road is always a good ride except when held up by traffic, which we got more of our share than usual. We then turned right and then took the Roadvale turn and ended up at Kalbar which was planned, but there we hit another ''T'' junction and went right which was in the plans but instead of taking a left to the Cunningham Highway we got lost again. This time we didn't make up time in fact we lost all the made up time from the last ''lost". From Kalbar we went to Harrisville before finally making it to Warrill View. Then we hit some great roads again before the stop at the Rosevale Pub. After the discovery of a bit of steel belt protruding from Adrian's rear tyre, we had a quick refresher and then started the homeward leg through MtWalker some going on to Marburg, Glamorgan Vale, Fernvale and Mt G I believe, while the rest of us headed via Amberley to home or to Springwood Suzuki where Adrian was lucky enough to sweet talk his way to the fitting of a new tyre after the shop had closed. Well done there the boys from Tony Armstrong's. Obviously we need to do some work on this route before we try it again. The numbers were up again I think we had 13. Those who rode were, Grant, Stuart, Kim, Neil, Andrew, Adrian, Steve, Dan, Dave, Craig, Bernie, Mike and Ken.

080802 Queen Mary Ride Report

Riders this week were Adrian, Kim, Neil, Dan, Clyde, Andrew and Ken. We were joined on 4 wheels by the twins Craig & Grant. Thanks boys for the action photos. The meal was as usual first class thanks Bev, with Dan's pan cakes taking the pick as most elaborate. The dry conditions, clear sky and crisp temperature making riding in SEQ an absolute pleasure at this time of year, and combined with some challenging roads and some great twisties we are truly blessed with our rides. Looking forward to the next outing which I'm sure will be just as much fun.
