080628 Up a the Mountain

Meet 7.30 am at the huge BP LHS south bound on the M1 at Yatala and ride through Beenleigh over Mt Tamborine and then into Canungra for brekkie. Afterwards the plan is to ride to Boonah via Beaudesert and then on to the Rosevale Pub via Warrill View . Afterwards we head home via Merryvale, Mt Walker and Amberley.
Just a sobering thought on motorcycle accidents in today's paper. Those who were out with us on Mt G last week saw the remnants of an off which was not fatal. Let's make sure we are all round for a long time. One thing for sure after the article below is another blitz will happen on bikes and at Mt G.

Further to the above and in response to a request by Jim I have the web address below for an article called 'The Pace' which some of you will have seen before. It is well worth a read. And further to this comes a thought from a discussion I recently had. If someone catches you from behind please wave them through. I always make a habit of this when I'm aware that I'm sitting in front of someone. This becomes more crucial when riding on a winding road where overtaking is very difficult. We don't want a situation occurring where someone tries to overtake a rider who changes his line. Consequences can be disastrous. Please be thoughtful and patient. I don't like preaching as I'm sure everyone in our group is riding well, but we have had a large increase in our numbers and with more riders come more variables and the more variables the more the risk increases.

RIDE REPORT:
Good ride with Steve, Kim, Neal, Andrew, Adrian and Mike, the Dentist and mate (??)and Lester, who joined us at the new restaurant TATRA on Mt Tambourine, magnificent day and a good feel. Great German Sausage and good coffeeand bright sunshine in the cool mountain air - what a life in Queensland! Kim led from the Stapylton BP and discovered the biggest line of semi -trailers he could to stay behind. Nice ride up the curves and over the top (via the long way as Lester said the Goat track was a bit slippery). Kim, Mike Lester, Steve went back to the Gold Coast and continues to brisso - the boys went back to cunungra - Mate ?? lost his lisence with points from the wallopers- we will all struggle I think with the clampdown. Nice footy drinks for the Rugby at Kens place that night.

080621 Out to the Outback (well Clifton anyway)

This week we are headed on one of the new rides we've recently found to Clifton. Meet at the BP Goodna 7am as usual. Then we head up to Grantham through some of the back roads. From there we go south-west to Clifton via Ma Ma Creek. Brekkie will be at Clifton as before. To get home I was thinking of going into Toowoomba via Nobby, Greenmount and Cambooya and then taking the road via Highfields, Hampton & Ravensbourne to Esk and then ending up over Mt G. This is all supposing the weather is good, if any doubts on the day please give me a call in the morning 0418886041.
For those interested last weeks ride & photos (NB Nonna Neil) are on the blog and can be found at http://stayupright.blogspot.com/

Ride Report:
Condolences to the 3 bikers families who died on this weekend in Queensland South East. One near Mailatas, Mt Glorious.Stay upright guys. Safe journey for us up the Range on a brisk morning. Ken, Neil, Lester, Danny, Andrew, Steve, Kim, Mike, and Ducati Jim- last ride for a bit as he is off to Pakistan. Took the back track up through Ma Ma Creek turning right at ESK turnoff- good route as it saves the Ipswich traffic and lights. Stunning day to ride. Kim was the only one to make a solstice day with a 5.30 morning ride up Mt Cootha. Clifton's Brekky was meatballs and pies and tales with a few big brekkys as well. Kim lost his ariel- typical BMW bits falling off. Steve just thought it was a stick and didnt catch it at 100 kpm- typical kwaka rider hanging on for dear life! Danny went off exploring and the rest thru Toowoomba and down the Range on the big curves. Mike took off down the Spring Creek Road. Neall's Restaurant at Mt Glorious gave a stunning view of Brisbane and beyond. all upright.

080614 The Somerset Run

It's becoming rather repetitive saying this but 'weather permitting' we plan to ride to Esk for brekkie this week. Meet at the BP Goodna 7am for a ride via Glamorgan Vale, Lowood, Lake Atkinson, Coominya to Esk. After our repast we head north towards Somerset, before which we begin our ride homewards in the direction of Fernvale. With fine conditions the plan is to turn east before Fernvale and tackle Mt Glorious with a stop on top at the usual cafe. Any doubts on the ride please call me on the morning on 0418886041. RegardsKen

REPORT: Clear run from Goodna Servo with Danny, Kim, Neil, Lester (not so cold), Adrian, Ken, Steve, Jim, and Tim (who took the photos - oh yea Andrew) all enjoying a breakfast at a new venue called Sticky Fingers Alfresco Restaurant. Extremely good fare (and great dunnys) will be used by us again. also had heating for Nanna (sorry i meant Neil). The photo does injustice -it was really ugly. Bonding worked well so we continue that at Neil's restaurant on Mt Glorious. All uneventful but a fantastic ride on a beautiful day. Kim needs to do a bit more checking to make sure he follows the right bloke back to Hi Side Leathers at Salisbury - thanks go to Danny and Andrew for helping the poor silly sod. Check the photos

080606 The Queens Birthday Run

As the wet weather beat us for last weeks destination the plan is to try again this week and head to Toowoomba for brekkie at the usual spot in Margaret Street, CafĂ© Valetta. Start will be back to normal this week 7 am at the BP Goodna. Not sure of the route yet, either head along the highway or maybe take the back way through Ipswich, Laidley, Grantham and Flagstone. Much will depend on the weather and mood of the day. Neil and Adrian have arranged to do an overnighter in northern NSW and will be travelling with us to Toowoomba. Lester had plans to head to Goondiwindi and may be joining us on the Toowoomba leg also. After breakfast they will depart on their journeys and we'll head to Esk via Hampton as usual where we’ll decide on the final leg home either over Mt Glorious or on Ipswich Road, again mood and weather dependant. Please ring me in the morning if it’s wet or there are any doubts - ??????041. From my understanding Neil and Adrian will be there regardless of conditions and riding come hell or high water. Gotta love the commitment don't you – or should they just both be committed?Hope to see you at Goodna.
The TRIP REPORT : lovely weather to start -it was blustery and wet. Suprisingly Micheal (newby)AnNdrew, Adrian, Neil, Kim , and Henry (last ride for a few months) made the day. consnsus was to go straight up the highway -. Wet gear on and into the void. The trip was wet!! Past gatton we were suprised, the weather cleared and the wet road started to dry out. Looked goo d for the rest. Breakfast was inside- scenery inside was great! Toooomba can produce some lovely female images of grace and style. Neil and Adrian headed for Northern NSW and the rest headed North. The ride continued into a cloudbank. What fun! As a lead, Kim's taillight disappeared into the fog continually- down to 40kph at some points. Henry suggested Kim get a flashing cycle light as it would be more effective. This continues and made for a stunningly different ride. The silhouetted trees in the fog were stunnning. We came off the Range at the Hampton turnoff and headed for Esk. No stopping till the Bakery at Fernvale. here the world looked a lot different - no wet gear and no wet roads . Lovely ride home.
